Who said that red and green are colors just for Christmas?! NO WAY! While thrifting recently, I came across a vintage red and green tablecloth and immediately thought about watermelons. I had scored a darling watermelon sign at the ReStore months before and was waiting for the perfect opportunity to hang it outside. That tablecloth was just what I needed to get my creative watermelon juices flowing. I started gathering red and green items from various secret locations around the house, where I stow away my abundant decor. In no time, I had all kinds of goodies set out to redecorate the backyard firepit area and potting shed.

When decorating, I generally follow a little motto that I made up. First choose a color scheme. Then select a theme. For me, this helps tremendously in gathering the things that I want to use. It gives direction and helps to tie everything together. Give it a try sometime, and you’ll see just what I mean. This was my first time decorating with watermelons, and I found it to be enjoyable. I had a lot of fun decorating!

I have a thing for Radio Flyers, as you can see. I own several wagons and a couple trikes as well. They were included in my decoration roundup. The red wagon was just perfect to wheel in the melons! I lined it with red gingham fabric, also a past thrifting score. If you’re not a thrifter…yet,..I highly recommend checking out your local thrift stores. So many goodies to be found! The watermelon knife was a wedding gift, part of a watermelon serving set. Red check paper plates were perfect for messy, juicy watermelon.

I always enjoy gussying up the inside of the greenhouse, but usually don’t take pictures. This time I captured a few to share. I always keep a chair inside the shed, a special place to sit and read. I scoop up the clearance chairs at ReStore, with $1 being my budget. I’m patient till the prices drop and eventually they do. I like to spray paint them various happy colors to place in both the gardens and greenhouse. A green chair was perfect for the theme, along with a little green table. Of course, it was another ReStore score for just a few dollars! I collect fruit baskets, many of them have red and green on them, so I displayed them as well. Just about everything you see in the potting shed is thrifted, gifted, handed down or free… except for the watermelon doormat. I saw it at Dollar General and couldn’t resist. Too Cute!

Well, now you have the ins and outs to a summer watermelon decor theme. I think it’s a wonderful summer theme that could be used in the kitchen, dining area, front porch, backyard deck or patio, and yes, even in a she shed. All you really need are a couple watermelon items, along with some red and green. Of course, a real watermelon is a nice touch, waiting to be eaten. That’s the best part, a grand finale when everyone gathers for some yummy watermelon!
