A few years ago I came across an old corner cabinet in need of new life and a new vision. I scored it for about $10 at ReStore, my favorite place to find ugly duckling furniture for really cheap. This cabinet was once a built in, probably in a basement based on the water damage. It reminded me of my 70’s bedroom with the orange paint and greenish contact paper.

I knew the contact paper was headed straight to the trash. I debated on what color of paint for the back of the shelves. I just couldn’t decide… and Fall was quickly approaching. I decided to postpone the decision, leaving the orange paint for the Autumn months.
With orange and black such a vivid color combination, black Halloween silhouettes seemed like the perfect way to debut this cute little corner cabinet. I looked for free printable spooky Halloween silhouettes online, including haunted houses, creepy trees, tombstones and bats.

It would have been far easier to use a Silhouette Cameo or Cricut to cut out everything. When cutting the tombstones, I left a tab at the bottom of each stone, so they could stand up. I used double-sided tape to attach everything to the shelves.

This was such an easy idea! Now, you might not have orange shelves like these. White shelves would work wonderfully with black silhouettes too. Another option to achieve an orange backdrop, would be lining the shelves with orange wrapping paper from a dollar store. In the end, rather than paint over the orange, I finally decided to keep it orange and cover it with various wrapping papers throughout the other seasons.

In our house, my husband likes a creepy Halloween. I prefer it on the cuter side. I am always seeking a happy middle style that is comfortable for all. These silhouette shelves definitely accomplish that.
