Just a week till Thanksgiving, and I have been busy decorating for our family gathering. If you’re like us, and wait till after Thanksgiving to deck the halls for Christmas, then I have a few warm and cozy Thanksgiving decor ideas to hopefully inspire you.
Grandma Mamie’s quilt is the star of this November setting.
QUILTS & THROWS
For me, cozy definitely includes color. After all, Fall is such a colorful time of year as the trees put on their warm Autumn sweaters. I like to bring out all kinds of colorful quilts and throws, perfect for Autumn evenings of snuggling, but they’re multifunctional, serving as beautiful decor.
Keep it cozy! We greet our guests at the door with a smile and warm country cottage welcome. This homemade quilt, found at an estate sale, hangs in our entry foyer. I change the quilt throughout the year. Hanging a quilt over a bench is an easy way to add Fall color. I rescued this orange quilt from my husband’s garage. He was using it as a moving pad. It looks wonderful with the table runner.Notice how the red quilt and blue gingham throw add both color and coziness. The pillow cover ties the two colors together.
PILLOWS
Pillows are another way to keep it cozy for Thanksgiving. If you have too many pillows, consider using pillow covers. There are many inexpensive options, and they take up much less room when storing them.
I fell hard for this pillow. The colors are divine and go well in our Americana themed sunroom.Anything with an old pick-up truck is great decor to my husband. He restores old cars and pick-ups. This was from a previous Thanksgiving. I enjoy changing up a few things each year. Some things I keep the same… tradition. My husband likes his furniture dark. I like to create a balance and brighten things up a bit with painted pieces of furniture. Pillows are another easy way to add pops of color. From drab to cozy!A WELCOME pillow on the porch is a nice touch to help greet visitors.
TABLE RUNNERS
Because the table is the focal point of Thanksgiving dinner, a festive Fall table runner is a must. I’ve never spent a lot on a runner. I prefer clearance sales and thrift store finds. Homemade table runners can be as involved as a quilted piece or as simple as a strip of pretty fabric. So many options and what a difference they make!
This was my first ever Thanksgiving table runner. I’m still smitten with its floral design and colors. This turkey table runner was a hand-me-down. Even the kids’ table gets a runner. The pairing of orange and pink made this a striking table runner. I found this beauty in a hand-me-down bag of quilting scraps. All it needed was the crocheted ribbon to give it a finished look.
CORNUCOPIAS
Nothing symbolizes Thanksgiving blessings quite like an overflowing cornucopia! These can be found at thrift stores for cheap. Fill them with goodies like pumpkins, sunflowers, gourds and leaves. Real items or faux from the dollar store both work wonderfully. A few foraged pinecones add to the overflow.
This particular Thanksgiving landed on my birthday. We used Pioneer Woman paper plates… because this birthday girl wasn’t about to spend her special day washing dishes. This vintage vignette creates a cozy Autumn feel. I like to decorate my Remington typewriter for various holidays throughout the year.I enjoy transforming wagons and other unexpected items into whimsical cornucopias. So cute!A vintage wheelbarrow overflowing with pumpkins, leaves, and flowers makes an adorable outdoor cornucopia.
WORDS… to live by!
Words are powerful. They have the ability to encourage, remind, transform and bring life. The message of giving thanks and blessing others bears repeating. Whether it’s a cute sign or hand drawn chalkboard, spread the word!
My husband thinks this is a fancy display of his oil cans. Nonsense! This is a creative pumpkin patch! It’s not called Thanksgiving without a reason. Did you know that the more you give thanks, the more content you will be?I found this reversible sign at Aldi for a great price. Anytime I can get double duty from a piece of decor, I am doubly delighted. You might not have room for a bigger sign, but this sweet little message is just the right size.
KNICK KNACKS… FIGURINES
Gather the gang! Turkeys, Pilgrims, Native Americans, and more. Whether placed in groupings or individually, smaller knick knacks are a fun way to add a touch of Thanksgiving decor. While growing up, my kids loved gifting me with knick knacks bought with their hard earned paper route money. Being sentimental, I still display their gifts.
What a turkey! Just hanging out with those adorable dangling legs! This little praying cutie is a candle. Pie, pie and more pie! We take our pies seriously! The crocheted pumpkin was a gift from a friend. I think of her each time I see the handmade pumpkin. The gang’s all here! Have you ever considered using rusty old muffin tins as part of a display? The ideas are endless!Just a few coffee table pretties to create a Fall look! These types of items were the things my growing kids so looked forward to seeing with each holiday. They enjoyed helping me decorate.
FLOWERS & FOLIAGE
The colors of nature during Autumn are divine! Why not bring such beauty inside?! Whether you prefer to forage through a forest or wander your way through Dollar Tree, gathering leaves, flowers, acorns and pinecones can be exciting. What a difference they make when displayed!
These are faux flowers in the crock. I was surprised at how realistic they look when I found them at Goodwill. These are real flowers with a couple of faux sunflowers added to the mix. I will often display both faux and real together.
THANKSGIVING TREE
We decorate a Halloween tree. (You’ll find it in the previous post.) It’s too much work to take the tree down afterwards, only to bring it back out for Christmas just a few weeks later. So we simply turn it into a Thanksgiving tree, using what we have already for garland and ornaments.
We use pumpkin and leaf garlands for the tree as readymade garland.Doesn’t this corner just ooze with country cottage charm!
PUMPKINS!
Pumpkins aren’t just for Halloween… or pumpkin pie. They can still be used in November for Thanksgiving decorating. I like to buy a couple more faux pumpkins each year… after Halloween when they’re marked down. Squirrels are brutal with pumpkins, so I use faux outside. Faux sure!
Just a few small pumpkins on this cozy corner cabinet. Don’t miss the metal pumpkin beside the vintage cabinet. After my first husband passed away, I bravely hosted my first ever Thanksgiving. I splurged just a little on the metal pumpkin to add a bit of warmth to our home. Now it’s a reminder to give thanks for how faithful God was during difficult times.
Even the greenhouse gets a touch of Thanksgiving decor.
This is our welcome wagon, filled with pumpkins, perfect for greeting guests as they make their way to the door. I like to beckon guests from the curb, so there’s no doubt that they are welcome within our home.
I hope you too were beckoned to enjoy the warmth and love of our home… Comfy Lane Cottage! Happy decorating and have a blessed Thanksgiving!
I LOVED ALL YOUR PICTURES! Not only do you decorate beautifully but you also take gorgeous pictures which is something I haven’t taken the time to do! Thank you for sharing.
I have a gift for you that fits perfectly with your decor! Maybe we could plan to get together either this week or next?
