Country Cottage Christmas Tour… at Comfy Lane Cottage

WELCOME to Comfy Lane Cottage! I’m thrilled that you discovered our cozy little home, especially at Christmas time. We are recovering from a big snow storm… and another big Christmas season as well. The holidays always come in fast like a storm, and in all the busy preparations, I rarely find time to take photos until afterwards, when things are calm once again. I keep the decorations up for a bit longer, so that we can enjoy all the color, lights, and sentimental displays.

A little sneak peek into our country cottage Christmas!

I am definitely an introverted homebody. Being at home is my happy place. I hope you find joy here as well… and inspiration as you take a peek into our cozy home, a country cottage Christmas at Comfy Lane!

WELCOME to Comfy Lane Cottage!

A WELCOMING ENTRANCE

I’m a firm believer in creating a home with more than just curb appeal. I want our home to be comfy and inviting from the curb to our cottage door. Hopefully, Comfy Lane Cottage says Merry Christmas to all… before even reaching the door.

Howdy neighbor! Let’s sit and chat about our Christmas plans.
A grapevine poinsettia wreath is all this vintage bike needs at Christmas time to beckon family and friends up the pathway.
Our porch is small, but never too small for a few welcoming winter Christmas decorations. Even the faux balcony gets decorated, so all who passby will feel a welcoming draw to stop in for a visit.
The snow on the chair matches the pillow and sled. I truly enjoy snow, especially at Christmas time. It just adds to the cozy country cottage feel of our home.
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! YES to SNOW DAYS!
Our porch stoop is adorned with a collection of vintage fishing goodies. A dear friend made the Fishers of Men sign. For me, vintage fits well with a country cottage style, especially at Christmas time.
An old minnow bucket is perfect for poinsettias!

FESTIVE FOYER

We live in a split-level home with a small foyer. I joke that upon entering you must make a decision…. Go Up or Down. Steps lead to both an upstairs and downstairs. We live in the upstairs area, fondly named the Upper Room, and my husband uses the downstairs for his office and hobbies. You’d be surprised at what I can fit into an itty bitty foyer at Christmas time.

My favorite Christmas colors are blue, red and green. I like that you can see the porch decorations through the foyer window.
By decorating with snow themed items,  I can easily leave many decorations up through January. They celebrate the winter season.
This is my childhood sled. It is also the childhood sled of my now grown children. Someday, I hope to pull grandchildren around the neighborhood on this special treasure.
My husband collects gas and oil cans. I display some of his collection on the stairs leading downstairs to his work spaces. Flowers are a simple way to add a touch of Christmas.
I really like using flowers when decorating, both real and faux flowers. These add Christmas colors. Faux Sure!

LANDING TO LIVING ROOM

Landings at the top of stairs can be awkward spaces. Cozy welcoming decorations draw family and friends up the stairs and into the living room. Welcome to the Upper Room! For several years, I have decorated our home for Christmas using a plaid theme. This year I changed things up, using gingham and checks throughout the house to create that cottage flow from room to room. I adore the country cottage look that it creates at Christmas time… very joyful!

As you go upstairs, you are greeted by smiling snow cuties… and a vintage view with chippy door, old crocks and quilt. Did you notice the chalkboard… Comfy Lane Christmas? The dog’s tail keeps erasing it!
My antique jelly cabinet is transformed into an old fashioned Christmas tree farm.
A friend from Instagram gave me the primitive quilted tree garland as part of a Secret Santa gift exchange. It’s just my style.
Comfy Lane Tree Farm! A growing collection of various thrifted trees that just keeps growing… as most collections do around here. The lace becomes a beautiful layer of snow.
I bought this adorable red pick-up truck hauling a lit Christmas tree several years ago at Lowe’s. People tend to comment and ask about it. It can easily be copied with a metal dollar store truck and tree.
🎵Do you saw what I saw!🎶 I borrowed my husband’s red vintage buck saw for our little tree farm.
The saw ornament was a gift from my sweet Mom many years ago. Notice the gingham rag garland on the tree.
My younger daughter gave me this red and white check dog ornament. What a cutie! It’s all the little things that tie the gingham and check theme together.
Christmas ambiance!
A view of our landing, much like an intersection, that leads in four directions, including the living room. I’m not sure which display is my favorite… the jelly cabinet or French blue chair. Hopefully, both beckon loved ones to gather.
An inexpensive dollar store pick-up truck hauling a thrifted tree is parked on a brightly painted bargain chair! I collect lonely old chairs without mates, usually on clearance at the Restore for $1, and paint them bright country cottage colors.
Here’s another view from our living room… a quick peek into the dining room. The collection of old cabinets is a wonderful backdrop for Christmas displays. This is my idea of country cottage cozy!
Look to your left at the landing and this is what you’ll see. Welcome to our living room, all decked out for Christmas!
The bright red and white check curtains are new, just in time for Christmas. They make me smile!
Most things that you see are thrifted, gifted, or hand-me-downs. I’m very sentimental and try to use things with memories of special people and events when I decorate. Everything has significance and tells a story.
After years of plaid ribbon wrapped around this tree, gingham ribbon is like a breath of fresh air. It gives new life to our vintage tree and old Shiny Brite ornaments.
Tucked behind the carved rocker is a little surprise! Grandma Mamie’s sewing cabinet with a beautiful Singer sewing machine, wooden sewing box, Sad irons, and collection of vintage scissors.
My husband and I collect oil lamps. I’ve run out of room on the mantel for all of them. With a garland of greenery, red poinsettias, and red garland the mantel looks lovely. Of course, the nativity adds the final touch for Christmas splendor.
My niece made the crocheted  garland displayed from the mantel. My mom-in-love crocheted Lane and framed it for hanging. Something handmade adds a bit of warmth and charm to a country cottage Christmas.
The nativity scene looks beautiful nestled beside winter white milk glass. The white vases remind me of a snowy forest. The red and white gingham quilt is perfect for Christmas. Using gingham throughout our home helps to tie everything together in that country cottage style that I adore. It looks lovely displayed on the chippy blue bench.
Another rescued chair painted Wildflower Blue! All it needs is a Noel pillow to look like Christmas. This secretary cabinet was scored at an estate sale. I think it’s gorgeous. We finally found the perfect spot for it in our living room, just in time for Christmas.
I so enjoy displaying flowers in unexpected vintage treasures… like this Guy’s Potato Chips tin. The gingham star keeps this year’s Christmas decor theme going.
While my husband and I were dating, we collected miniatures for our Christmas village. Most are kept in a vintage secretary cabinet, which you’ll soon see, but a few larger items have made it to the coffee table. The little pick-up truck adds Christmas whimsy.
This carousel is special to us… a gift from my late first husband’s junior high art teacher. She too has passed away, but we still remember her love for our family.
I truly appreciate how our living and dining rooms are open and connected. My husband likes old antique furniture with natural brown stains. Too much brown gets me down! I enjoy balancing it with colorful pieces of furniture and textiles. It creates a bright cozy space. Our bird dog, Katie Mae, snuggling in the comfy chair, definitely likes our cozy country cottage at Christmas time!
A long view from our living room, into the dining room, and all the way into our sunroom! Our Upper Room is a great space for gathering.

JOYFUL DINING ROOM

I am so thankful to have our dining and living rooms opened up as one large gathering area. This is definitely a big part of where we gather in the evenings and also when my grown children visit. Most of my creative decorating happens in the dining room, as I change things for holidays and seasons. Some of our favorite collections are showcased in the dining room as well and are creatively incorporated into the holiday decor. The theme for this space is JOY. You’ll soon see why!

This is our Christmas village, collected one building at a time, year by year. I store and display it in this secretary. When Christmas is over, I hang lace curtains behind the glass to hide the tiny village… till next Christmas.
Doilies create a white covering of snow. So pretty!
My husband restores old cars, so it seems appropriate to display a few miniature cars as well.
Here’s a view of the left side of our cozy dining room. This room is my favorite space to get creative with colors, vintage goodies and repurposed creations. We scored the yellow dining bench at a Salvation Army thrift store about 30 years ago. A bright and joyful yellow!
JOY is the theme for all of these festive Christmas decorations.
An Instagram friend made this pillow for me, even hand stitching JOY. It’s adorable!
There are no windows to the outside world in our dining room…  because of our sunroom, an addition built on to the back of our house. Bright colors truly help to create a light happy space.
My husband’s comfy chair is the inspiration for the name of our home. I want all who enter to feel as comfy, cozy and loved as this sweet dog in her favorite chair.
On Wednesdays my husband buys me fresh flowers. Red, white and green flowers are my favorite to set out for Christmas. Tip: Faux flowers can be mingled into a fresh bouquet for added color. The gingham table runner is from a repurposed bed sheet. The gingham is repeated in the ribbon tied around the mason jar. This photo typifies my style for a country cottage Christmas.
Cookies and milk for Santa and his crew, even straws for the reindeer!
The gingham theme continues by adding red and white gingham ribbon to the bunting that adorns this antique cabinet used to display dishes. This definitely has a Country Cottage Christmas feel!
Aren’t the vintage Santa lights incredible?!
Pioneer Woman red check adhesive wallpaper lines the back of our corner cabinet. It adds a touch of country cottage Christmas cheer.
Santa asks that all elves remember to punch in at the Christmas red time clock. Paychecks will be printed on his minty Paymaster once Christmas gifts are all delivered.
This small tree holds a small collection of Santa ornaments.
My mother-in-love added to the Santa collection with this jolly old guy. The JOY nativity plate was a diy gift from my niece. We’re keeping the JOY alive!
The red Remington typewriter helps to show off my Grace List. There’s no naughty or nice list in our home; all are welcomed with love.
This is such a joyful corner, filled with color, creativity and sentimental pieces…… collected piece by piece.
From the doorway of our sunroom, the dining room and living room look so festive. The red check curtains draw your eye.
Do you see what I see?!  Our bird dog posing for a picture! She’s quite the photo bomber!
This mantel, a curbside find, is repurposed as a bookcase. My husband’s old law books add a touch of red and green Christmas colors.
I collect used nativity sets, usually found on last chance bargain tables. This is my little rescue mission. The first nativity set on the left is from my childhood. My dad gave it to me after my mom passed away. She always displayed it front and center under our Christmas tree.
This chalkboard was made by my late first husband. We used it while homeschooling our children, who are all grown up with only the youngest still living at home. I love using it now to encourage and edify. This is my favorite place to decorate.
I enjoy the variety of mangers! Angels are hung from the ceiling using dollar store gingham ribbon.
Beside our bookcase mantel is the doorway to our kitchen. Let’s take a tour of our country cottage kitchen together. Then we’ll head out to the sunroom to take in the warm and cozy atmosphere.

SNOW DAYS KITCHEN

I LOVE snow! It’s soooo beautiful! With the warmest of snow clothes, I still play in the snow. I have such happy memories of snow days with my children while growing up. They too had all the warm gear for hours of fun in the snow. It’s Snow Much Fun to capture those memories for Christmas in our country cottage kitchen. The room is furnished with wonderful old furniture given new life, from our refinished blue Ethan Allen hutch to our chippy Hoosier coffee bar cabinet.

Come on in! The winter theme for our kitchen is Snow Days. It might be cold outside, but this is a warm and cozy kitchen.
A vintage Hoosier cabinet works wonderfully for our coffee bar. This is where you’ll find us in the mornings. In past years, I put an old sled on top of the Hoosier. This year I chose to keep up my Mama’s teapot collection. I sure do miss her, especially at Christmas time.
This snow themed tree is a new addition to our country cottage Christmas kitchen from previous years. The snowflake lights are enjoyable in the evening when the lights are turned down.
I used to be an island girl, but the charm of family members gathering around the kitchen table reminds me of time spent together in my grandma’s kitchen. The informal table runner keeps the gingham theme flowing throughout our home, as does the Pioneer Woman red check contact paper used inside the Hoosier cabinet.
Our Ethan Allen hutch displays the joys of snow days… snowmen, sledding, hot cocoa and warm cookies after a long day of snow play. Did you notice a few of our vintage collections… rolling pins, sifters and cookie tins?!
More flowers from my husband! It’s so nice having fresh flowers in the winter. Our grocery store has clearance bouquets for only $3.99. Isn’t this charcuterie sled adorable?!
Our kitchen, like the dining room, has no windows to see outside. However, the sink window overlooks our sunroom, and I make sure to create happy views. Through the window, you can see our family memory tree all lit up for Christmas. The lights through the window at nighttime are magical!
Sentimental ornaments are specially placed on the backside of the tree, so I can see them through the window while working in the kitchen.
This is a daytime view of our sunroom through the kitchen window. I really like this country cottage Christmas view! There’s such a warm welcoming feel in our sunroom.

SUNNY SUNROOM CHRISTMAS

The sunroom is filled with many of our vintage collections as well as comfy cozy spots to relax and renew. It is such a sunny warm space! Colors are abounding and help to create the cozy feel of the room. We use this room for large holiday gatherings, with plenty of places to sit. My favorite celebration in the sunroom is our family’s intimate Christmas celebration. My daughter and I set up the worn old family tree each year, reminiscing over the ornaments with their endearing meanings and memories. This is a special tree!

This old worn trunk is the perfect resting spot for our family memory tree! Decades of sentimental ornaments adorn her branches.
My children and I bought this Martha Stewart Christmas tree the first Christmas after the passing of my late husband. He always took the kids shopping and/or chopping for a real tree. We decided to change things up after his passing, getting a faux tree. The branches are now tired and bare. But you hardly notice the missing green once it’s decked in love.
The turquoise shaker style dresser was my childhood dresser and eventually used in both of my daughters’ rooms. I like how it adds a pop of cottage color. The quilts, including the Pioneer Woman quilt under the tree, add color as well, and create a country vibe. There is red gingham throughout Grandma Mamie’s patchwork quilt displayed on the dresser.
Christmas Eve with presents under the tree and cascading onto the floor! How exciting!
I couldn’t decide which picture I like more. This one has a red bushel basket filled with pillows. The next picture does not. My daughter voted for this one.
I’m a maximalist, so sometimes I have to step back to see if it’s starting to look cluttery. I removed the basket full of pillows for this picture. What do you think? Basket or no basket?
So many precious ornaments…. homemade by my kids and gifts from loved ones!!!
When the Santas take over the dining room at Christmas time, I move the collection of coffee percolators and decanters to the sunroom. I’m out of room for storing collections, so they get incorporated into the decor.
A cozy Christmas brunch for two!
It’s so fun gathering dishes to match the colors of Christmas! Whenever I spot a pretty tablecloth for a dollar or two, I grab it. Tablecloths add color and are wonderfully nostalgic.
A few childhood Christmas books saved over the years and displayed each Christmas.
Lots of comfy seating for family and friends! Again, the combination of woods and colors creates a cozy country cottage Christmas
I just scored the old yellow suitcase last month. It’s even more adorable on the inside. I need a taller ceiling!
The Candy Cane Forest adds a bit of whimsy. The dogs really like it too, so I now use fake candy canes.
Red wagons are my thing, all sizes! I used to host a Wagon Decor Tour on Instagram for various holidays with a group of talented ladies and their decorated wagons. These miniature wagon ornaments remind me of my sweet and talented friends.
Soup to warm the stomach and soul! I have a growing Campbell’s collection, which pairs well with winter decor.
This Campbell’s stock pot is my latest find. An estate sale clearance bargain that gets me excited every time I see it!
I really like how the sun shines into the sunroom. Do you see what I mean about this room being cozy and warm? It’s my definition of a country cottage Christmas.
An old sewing rocker looks toward the Christmas tree. 🎵Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree!🎶
Red and green thermoses are gathered together to wish family and friends a Merry Christmas. They’re our welcome wagon!
Gingham ribbon and apple ornaments adorn this thrifted tree. Can you imagine cooking with this old gas oven and stove?! Once upon a time this was a green and cream appliance. The chippy mint green paint peeking through the red paint looks a lot like Christmas.
The gingham runner on Grandma’s coffee table is a festive spot for this cutie truck to park. The blue check slipcover on the couch in the background continues the theme of gingham and checks. Red and blue are fun colors for winter decorating.
This beautiful old Admiral is our beverage fridge for entertaining. So cute!
Our Christmas tree is “cooler”, pun intended!!! It’s so fun stacking vintage goodies to create Christmas trees.

WINTER WONDERLAND HAVEN

It’s been almost ten years since moving to Comfy Lane Cottage. One of the biggest transformations is the backyard. What used to be filled with brush piles, old car parts and weeds is now a backyard haven with winding paths, outdoor rooms and secret gardens. I’m glad you are able to see how beautiful it looks after a winter snowfall.

This is my Tea for Two Garden next to the shed. I call it the He Shed, because it’s where my husband stores all the outdoor things. Our bird dog is in the photo, of course. What a darling diva! She loves snow, just like her mom.
So pretty! The dogs are thrilled whenever I don my snowsuit and join them in the backyard. I’m just as thrilled to be outside in our backyard haven, no matter the season.
Potted herbs are tucked away safely for winter in the greenhouse. A little pathway from home to the greenhouse is hidden by snow from a big snow storm… most likely to be remembered for years to come.
The grapevine door wreath on the greenhouse is adorned with rusty old garden tools found for next to nothing at the ReStore. It’s a unique one of a kind wreath, just like the greenhouse. We built it using free old windows.

We started this tour walking up the front pathway, surrounded by snow. We ended the tour back in the snow again. Despite all of the cold snow outside, warm and inviting is the goal and desire for our home at Christmas time… and throughout the year. It is my hope and prayer that you have been blessed by the overflow of love that’s been poured into our home.

Thank you for visiting! Blessings from Comfy Lane Cottage!

My favorite greenhouse photo! Even a greenhouse looks prettier with touches of red and green at Christmas time. This is my happy place, a backyard haven! There’s always a chair for sittin’, dreaming and praying. This place makes me smile! I hope you like it too.

I thought of you today when I saw the cutest Valentine’s Day rugs at Aldi. I wanted to buy one but Dave thinks rugs are a tripping hazard.
