The other day I noticed that our front doormat was looking frayed and worn. It was definitely time to replace it. In that moment, it occurred to me that a worn doormat was a wonderful thing. It signified that lots of people had crossed the threshold of my home, of my heart. I carried that doormat from one home to the next, from Little Blue Cottage, where I was a widow raising four children on my own, to Comfy Lane Cottage, where I moved in with my new husband to embark on life’s journey together as a blended family…two “over-the-hill” newlyweds, two daughters, and a crazy bird dog. As I search for the next mat to WELCOME all who enter through the door of our home and into the love of our hearts, I invite you also to come inside, make yourself comfortable, and join me. My heart is overflowing with so many things to share. After all, sharing our “treasures”, rather than selfishly burying them, is a vital aspect of life.
