Last year, I discovered a secret weapon in decorating! Want to know the secret? Wrapping paper!
I scored an old corner cabinet at ReStore for about $10. It was love at first sight. I knew she was a beauty with lots of hidden potential. Her shelves were covered in green contact paper with bright orange paint on the back of each shelf.

The contact paper had to go, but I thought the orange would be wonderful for Fall. That would give me time to figure out what color I wanted to paint over the orange.

Are you ready to be impressed by just how cool orange can be?!!! I had sooo much fun decorating this shelf in October.

Fall ended and I was still unsure what to do with this cabinet. The idea came to me while cruising the aisles at Dollar Tree. I was looking through the Christmas paper and saw the cutest plaid wrap. I knew it would look perfect covering the orange paint. The best part… JUST $1!!!

I measured the shelf and cut the paper to size. The grid markings on the back of the paper made it sooo easy. To hold it up, I used a dab of glue stick… a little here and a little there as needed.

In no time, this vintage corner cabinet was totally transformed for Christmas! I still can’t believe this project only cost $1!

I was so delighted with how the cabinet turned out that I decided to incorporate the plaid paper in styling our mantel bookshelf, also located in the dining room.

I saved the leftover roll of plaid wrapping paper and used it the following year again. Now that’s what I call stretching a dollar!

After Christmas, I began to search for the next roll of wrapping paper. I wanted a Valentine pattern. I found the perfect heart pattern at Walmart.

I was amazed at how such a little change created such a big impact! A whole new look!

Again, I wanted to use the same paper for the mantel on the opposite wall. It was so easy trading out the paper!

I might have gotten a little carried away! Because the wrapping paper was easy to use and inexpensive, I decided to carry the theme into the kitchen as well.

For our coffee bar, I wanted to create something fun and different. I hung an old shadowbox. After measuring how much wrapping paper was needed, I simply slid the paper behind it. Although I created the cafe awning by covering cardboard with fabric, wrapping paper would work just as nicely.

The dangling hearts were made using diy cardboard hearts cut from cereal boxes, dollar store ribbon and leftover gift wrap. Everything was assembled using glue.

In the past, I have used fabric remnants to cover cardboard, as in the LOVE letters on top of our hutch. Wrapping paper would be a wonderful alternative.

For March, I chose a color scheme of green, and blue. I also included yellow for the pop effect. The blue diagonal paper on the corner cabinet was from Dollar Tree. I used double sided tape to hang the paper, and it worked well.

For the kitchen coffee bar, I attached paper to the back of an old wooden window. The minty flocked gift wrap was from Dollar Tree.

As Spring rolled around, I was excited to switch out the paper in the corner cabinet. I already had the blue paper ready to go. It too was from Dollar Tree; they never disappoint.

Summer was a great season to incorporate red, white and blue into the decor. I switched out the corner cabinet right before Memorial weekend and kept it up throughout the summer… for Fourth of July and an apple theme.

For an apple theme, I used a red, green and yellow color scheme. I was taking the easy route, not having to change the wrapping paper and table runner. I have enjoyed collecting apple items for decades. One of these days, I’ll come across apple wrapping paper.

I have a few rolls of wrapping paper just waiting to be used. One is a yellow polkadot pattern. It will look adorable with my bee theme collection.π The ideas are endless!
We have covered a year’s worth of decor and lots of ideas. I hope you have found some easy and inexpensive inspiration. As the saying goes… That’s a wrap!
I havenβt used wrapping paper and nearly as many ways as you have that you inspire me Christa! Let me know when you want to get together I have your window!
