CHRISTMAS TOUR of our COZY COUNTRY COTTAGE

Welcome to Comfy Lane Cottage! I’ve always wanted to give a little Christmas tour, but never enough time. This year, with the dreaded virus spreading through our family, it’s mid January and we’re patiently waiting to celebrate a family Christmas together. Our decorations are still up, in hopes that it will be soon. So yesterday, I took lots more pictures and decided to capture it all here on the CLC blog.

A tree filled with decades of memories!

MERRY & BRIGHT… OUR SUNROOM

I finished decorating this memory tree in our sunroom on Christmas Eve. Normally, my youngest would help, but she was sick. I wanted it to look beautiful on Christmas morning just for her. Rather than putting presents under the tree, I used vintage toys and put our gifts in the Radio Flyer wagon, a special delivery for Christmas morning.

Who could resist a wagon load of gifts?!
Wrap & Roll!
Homemade and gifted ornaments… some of my favorites!

I set out several sentimental vignettes in the sunroom, each one styled with love.

A vintage suitcase filled with some of my mother’s things, a sentimental tribute. I shared all the details about this special vignette on my Instagram page, Comfylanecottage.
🎵Do you see what I see?🎵 A Christmas tree made from old wicker picnic baskets! My hubby gave me the bottom basket for Christmas. The others were found together on thrifting adventures.

The Hoosier cabinet was a new addition to our sunroom, and I was excited to decorate her for Christmas with thrifted aprons and an assortment of thrifted vintage pieces.

Creating cozy with color and beauty from junk! That’s my decor motto!

The Candy Cane Forest sign was from Krumpets Home Decor. I won a gift card, and the sign was irresistible.

Wouldn’t you love to go candy cane picking?!

I have made many wonderful friendships through Instagram. The home decor community has been so supportive. A group of us, all who enjoy using color in decorating, banded together to encourage one another. This was our second year to do a Secret Sister Santa gift exchange. So fun to give and receive home and garden gift items from all over North America!

These little thermos ornaments were one of the gifts from my Secret Sister Santa on Instagram. Adorable!

Look what my Santa Baby brought home! This old Prosperity gas stove and oven was an early Christmas gift this year. She’s beautiful!

I love how my little toy kitchen displayed on top matches the grown up version! This is a wonderful vintage piece to use for setting out sentimental things. My older brother made that fabric wreath many decades ago as a gift to my mother.

My birthday was in November; it landed on Thanksgiving. My son gifted me an old Singer sewing machine that he found at a garage sale. The woman hosting the sale collected old machines separated and discarded from their cabinets. She converted this one into a working portable machine. It went well with my other sewing type items.

Sew much to do and sew little time before Christmas!

A PLACE TO GATHER… OUR DINING ROOM

Our sunroom was a home addition added on to the back of the house with access through the dining room. It was a sunny day when this photo was taken, and the light from the sunroom flooded into the dining room, all decorated for Christmas.

I created Christmas cozy by hanging a vintage tablecloth over the bench. The homemade green and white bunting was transformed for Christmas by adding strips of red gingham ribbon. I used a lace tablecloth on this dark table to add texture and lighten things up a bit.

This corner cabinet was a $15 ReStore find. Check out my previous blog post to see what it originally looked like before transforming it with Dollar Tree $1 plaid wrapping paper. This was the first spot to be decorated for Christmas. All the Santas gathered for the occasion. One of the Santas on the middle shelf was from my childhood. I would plug it in each night, a special memory. Rather than a Naughty & Nice List, I decided to hang a Grace List to remind all that God’s gift of eternal life isn’t earned, but received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

The basket of old ornaments were from a grandmother’s attic. We used many of them on our living room tree.
Cookies and milk for Santa! Even straws for the reindeer!
In the evening when all the lights are turned down, the old Santa lights make this room so festive! My mom-in-love gave me the large Santa, originally belonging to one of her neighbors.

I displayed many of my nativity sets on the old wooden mantel in our dining room. The mantel was found curbside in the 80’s by my first husband and upcycled into a beautiful bookcase. He also made the chalkboard in the 90’s when we began to homeschool our kids. We loved sharing an enthusiasm for books with our children. This is a tribute to his loving memory.

The nativity set on the far left was from my childhood, always displayed under the tree by my mother. I started a mission to rescue old mangers from thrift stores many years ago.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS… OUR LIVING ROOM

My hubby’s comfy chair was given a makeover in the Fall…. thanks to our bird dog. She tore up the seat with stuffing EVERYWHERE. Being resourceful, I put it back together and found the perfect slipcover. The ruffle added a bit of country cottage charm. It was an improvement, in my opinion, and my hubby was kind enough to tolerate a ruffle on his recliner!

I love how our living room and dining room are open to each other. It’s ideal for entertaining and adds to the cozy feel of our home.

We have collected quite a few cabinets over the years. My husband scored the antique secretary decades ago and gave it to his mother. When she moved into her retirement apartment, she gave it back to him. It’s the perfect place to display our Christmas village. We try to add at least one new building to the village each year.

Old doilies and lace for Christmas snow!

My hubby gave me this antique pie safe for my birthday a couple years ago. I adorned her with a primitive tree garland made from old quilts by my Secret Sister Santa.

Oh Christmas Tree!

My husband has been restoring an old ’64 Chevy pick-up truck. We haven’t decided on a paint color yet… red or blue! Finding this replica of an old pick-up truck, hauling a Christmas tree, made us smile.

Christmas Tree Farm… ⬅️ This Way!

We live in a vintage raised ranch style home, similar to a split-level home. This is the view as you reach the landing to the upstairs, our upper room. Hopefully, it’s comfy, warm and inviting to all who enter.

No place like home at Christmas time!♥️💚

After scoring several rolls of plaid ribbon at an estate sale, a Christmas theme was born for the living room. PLAID! I used the ribbon on the Christmas tree, mantel, and also the bookshelf mantel in our dining room. Using plaid in both rooms tied everything together and created a continuous flow of cozy from room to room.

My daughter made the smaller pillows on the blue bench using fabric scraps from a family friend.

The angel bear watching from the salvaged church doors was a gift after my first husband passed away. We set the bear out every Christmas as a reminder of how God truly took care of us during the tough times.

The old quilt was scored at an underground fleamarket in the storage caves. Perfect for a tree decorated with vintage ornaments!

This was the first year to add lights to our thrifted mantel. I still can’t believe we found the mantel at ReStore for just $50.

Did you notice the matching slipcovers? I liked the look so much on my hubby’s comfy chair that I ordered one for the couch as well.

I had an abundance of faux poinsettias this year thanks to Aunt Betty. At Thanksgiving, she handed down much of her flowers to me, and I couldn’t wait to use them.

Lots of throw blankets and pillows add to the coziness!

My daughter gave me pillows for my birthday. They looked wonderful in the comfy chair and white spindle chair. I’ve collected snowmen decor for decades. My kids have been generous in contributing to the collection.

Don’t my new pillows look beautiful?!!!!
My mama crocheted the red, green and tan afghan on the couch. I set it out at Christmas time every year.

My hubby and I have a hot date every Friday morning with coffee first, then thrifting at two ReStores. We enjoy pickin’ for treasures together. We’ve started quite a few collections, including the oil lamps and milk glass displayed on the fireplace.

I found the red toolbox (under the bench) at ReStore and knew it would look darling filled with poinsettias.
Two more mangers rescued!!! My mom-in-love crocheted the Lane sign.
I won these solar lanterns a couple years ago. They looked wonderful displayed with Christmas goodies
A snow themed tree displayed in a vintage suitcase!

I had a photo bomber while taking photos in the living room, our bird dog, Katie Mae. She likes a cozy Christmas too! Her little sister, Nala the sheep dog, was hiding in the bedroom after being scared by the big bad vacuum cleaner.

Definitely a diva who likes the comfy spots!

I’m so thankful that you visited our Christmas home! I hope you felt the warmth and love. Please visit Comfy Lane Cottage again soon, as I will be sharing our Snow Days themed kitchen, the greenhouse and garden areas.
