My Antique Table Makeover… $10 ReStore Score!

My husband really likes old brown furniture, the darker the stain, the better for him. I too appreciate naturally stained furniture, but I also enjoy color, all kinds of colors. By blending both of our styles together, it creates balance and brightens things up a bit.

For years we’ve designated Friday as date day, seeking treasures in unexpected places.ย  We scour estate sales and ReStore, looking for bargains. If I can find an old piece of furniture for less than $15, then my husband doesn’t mind if I paint it.

On one particular picking adventure, we found a dining table with 3 chairs marked down to just $10 at ReStore. Evidently, nobody wanted it. YAY! It looked just like the beautiful dining set that my husband grew up with in his family home. He’d never let me paint his mother’s old table, but for $10 that bargain table would soon be white!

Look at these beautiful features!
I sanded and sanded till she was ready for paint.
I used a shiny white enamel paint, hoping it would brighten up our dining room.
BEFORE!  This was our previous dining room table from my husband’s bachelor days. For years I used lace tablecloths to cover it, trying to brighten up the dining room.
AFTER!  I think this bright white table is just what our dining room needed to lighten and brighten up the space. It turned out better than I even imagined!
These are not the 3 chairs that came with the table. I still need to recover the seats with new fabric. For now, I’m testing out brown stained chairs to decide whether or not I should paint the 3 chairs white. What do you think?
