Who said red and green are just for Christmas?! Nonsense! They’re the perfect summer colors for decorating, especially when styling with the fruit themed decor of watermelons. These wonderful colors and theme are deliciously displayed in my home each summer to create a welcoming and whimsical cozy cottage.

Every summer I look forward to unpacking my collection of watermelon decor. Over the years, I’ve used this theme in my dining and living rooms, sunroom and even outside with the porch, greenhouse and garden. It’s especially fun when the table is set and watermelon is served to family and friends.

Nothing says its summer like a juicy slice of watermelon! The best time to look for bargain priced watermelon decor is in the colder months of the year, when items are marked down and on clearance. I’ve collected watermelon decor pieces from estate sales, thrifting adventures, clearance racks, and even dollar stores.

From vintage crocheted potholders to melamine plates, watermelons begin to sprout throughout the home during the hot summer months. Sprinkling the watermelon theme around a room takes a little practice and tweaking, but the end result is whimsical and wonderful. Cabinets, shelving, tabletops, and mantels are all ideal places to display watermelon decor. Using red, green, and pink decor elements, including checks, stripes and plaids, complement the theme and tie it all together.

SUNROOM

Our sunny sunroom displays many of our vintage collections. It’s the perfect place to add a growing collection of watermelon themed decor during the summer months. The colors fit right in with this colorful room.

DINING ROOM

Our dining room has no direct windows to the outside. Adding a cheery colorful summer theme helps to brighten the room. Last summer I used watermelons to decorate this room, and it was quite sweet. (This summer, I decorated the dining room with berries and the sunroom with watermelons. It was a fruit filled summer!)

GARDEN/ GREENHOUSE

Our backyard haven is not your typical backyard. It is a work of heart. Filled with winding paths, gardens and plenty of places to sit, it too gets a bit of summer watermelon decor. This was the first place that I ever used the watermelon theme. My collection was small at the time, but the result was special.
